Why I Play the Florida Lottery

I own Tallahassee Grapevine and now that we are getting huge numbers, we might be able to get some advertisers and make some money.

Until then, I invest a dollar or two every week towards my retirement by playing the Florida Lottery. Specifically, the Lotto.

Seriously though... I do buy a ticket for the Lotto every now and then. Someone's gotta win, right?

So when anyone asks me about it, I tell them I am not gambling, I am "buying a conversation"...

So many people have conversations about what they would do if they won the lottery. It gives you a chance to express your dreams. But if they don't actually PLAY the lottery, then the conversation is pretty much moot.

For $1, you get the validity to talk about your dreams, goals, etc if you won the lottery. So I tell people, I am buying a conversation.

I realize the odds are slim. But people have won in the past. So you never know... plus the money, or at least part of it, goes to education - and at least creates a job at the Lottery offices. (Where they are not allowed to play, thus not allowed to dream.)

I was on Tallahassee Events Calendar for upcoming events and I noticed there is not much going on this weekend because it is Memorial Day. Next week - on June 3rd, we will have a table at the Business Showcase at University Center Club. It is open to the public and should be a lot of fun. Hope to see you there!

The Coolest Thing Happened on the Way to The Diamond...

We got comped into World Ballet's Rock the Diamond this past Sunday.  It was a great show and I wrote an article on it HERE.

I wrote and designed the article that Sunday night and posted it on TallahasseeGrapevine.com's blog page. The next day (Monday) was amazing... I got an email from the director of World Ballet letting me know how great the article was. I got a TON of traffic to the article because he shared it with his entire mailing list. I got a bunch of new profile accounts on the site PLUS many new Facebook fans because of it.

But best of all, I got this email:

I am new to the Tallahassee Grapevine.  My first time reading anything on this website was the incredible review for World Ballet's Rock the Diamond performance this past weekend.  First of all, thank you for such an in-depth and well-written review.  I am not only grateful but very impressed!  The writing was top notch!

That is what makes it all worthwhile! I am guilty of it, too. I know that if I see a work of art or article or song that impresses me, I should write or call or post or do something to acknowledge that person that created it. It would make their day. A lot of times, writers, musicians and artists feel underappreciated and just want to quit - imagine what would happen if they got some "atta boys" now and then? That would keep them going one more day!

So now I am going to resolve to make sure I let people know when I am impressed with something they've done and I encourage you to follow suit.

You never know what the ripple effect will be...

Tallahassee Grapevine Psyched to See Rock the Diamond Tomorrow

TallahasseeGrapevine.com has some exciting things coming up. First, we got to meet the new panther at the Tallahassee Museum this past week and got some cool video of it that we will add to the article. YES! We write articles with video snippets directly on the page so you can see a moving picture instead of just a photograph!

Tomorrow we get to see the matinee show of ROCK THE DIAMOND!  We are going to write a review from 4 points of view: An adult male, an adult female, an 11 year old boy and a 13 year old girl... the Guys can't wait for the CLASSIC ROCK Music played LIVE by Common Zenz and the Girls can't wait for the ballet! Stayed tuned for the story this week on The Tallahassee Grapevine!

We are also introducing some new pages like the Tallahassee Weekly & Daily Special Page: It will be updated once a week with the next weeks "Weekly" and "Daily" specials at local restaurants, retail shops, apartments and salons! All you have to do it tell them "I Heard It Through the Tallahassee Grapevine!"

We are also going to step up our Ultimate Guide to Local Bands and try to get more bands to participate. I already know of two events that used the guide to find and book some bands! One of which is the Vet Jam this Memorial Day Weekend at the Antique Car Museum.  We will have a story on that, too!

Tallahassee Grapevine has a new campaign

I run a local site called Tallahassee Grapevine and tomorrow we get to go meet the new Florida Panther at the Tallahassee Museum. So the job has its perks. We are going to introduce a unique concept in local articles and content. It does not have a name yet but it is a combination of text and video. So the text sets up the situation, then the reader can watch a video of the panther or whatnot, then more text, then more video. The video basically replaces still photographs. Cool, huh?

You will be able to find these under "Grapevine Spotlight" and those blog articles will be here: http://www.tallahasseegrapevine.com/blog/main/

I will blog again soon to tell you about the panther episode.
